Forming the bond between parents & children can be quite daunting, but even time, patience, and understanding children and parents can learn to love this quiet time together.
All children learn at a difference pace. Don't rush your child if they are not ready for big words. Introduce them slowly. If you interduce big words to soon your child may become overwhelmed and agitated making them shy away from wanting to learn to read.
Start off slow, let them guide you, and when you think they are ready for more challenging words, talk to them about it. Ask them about how they feel about reading. Talk to them about how they feel about what they are reading. Make them a part of the learning process, but make sure you decide how much to challenge them.
Make reading fun. Here are a few tips and ticks I've learned along the way.
Parent's and teachers today are overwhelmed themselves with all the resources out there, but which ones are truly right for you, your child, or your class. Only you can decide that.
The most important thing you can listen to is you instincts. Listen to your children, watch their progress, gage how much enjoyment they get from a story or a book. If the interest isn't there, maybe you just need to a different story. There are many to choose from.
One of the biggest breakthroughs comes when stories truly click. When they’re not just sounding out words, but actually understanding and enjoying them. That’s why I love using the Nicky Picture Book series.
These books are designed with young readers in mind—simple, engaging language paired with bright, meaningful illustrations that help children connect words to ideas. It builds confidence step by step, turning “I can’t read” into “I did it!” 💪Remember, reading isn’t just about words—it’s about imagination, connection, and growth. And the right books can make all the difference.
